And I know baby sleep can be totally overwhelming!
After the birth of my daughter Claire (who WOULD. NOT. SLEEP), I experienced severe postnatal anxiety and depression. Everyone was telling me different things, and it seemed like my baby was broken while every other baby was sleeping through the night.
I needed support, but sleep consultants were expensive and underqualified.
A lot of the advice they were sharing seemed to go against my instincts and my background in child development and mental health.
I have a masters degree in psychology, and years of experience in the mental health field. So when I felt able, I began using my knowledge of child development, temperament and attachment to support Claire’s sleep.
Having a predictable and consistent rhythm turned things around for us drastically. I’m not exaggerating when I say: it was life-changing.
So I began Pēpi and Parent. To help parents block out the noise with a new kind of sleep support that’s: evidence-based, individualised, and throws the generic 9, 12 and 4 sleep plans with spaced soothing into the bin.
Having a baby can be especially tough if you don’t have the resources, support, or a partner you can tap out to when it all gets too much.
Part of every paying Pēpi and Parent client’s fee goes toward my ‘Buy Support, Provide Support’ programme. This enables me to give solo parents and Māori whānau experiencing economic hardship the sleep support they need, free of charge. Because no one should have to do this alone.
Want to help get support for a loved one, or need some support yourself? I’d love to see how I can help.
All about:
Tailoring a plan to YOUR baby, needs, family dynamics and parenting style
Working towards YOUR goals, whether that be co-sleeping safely, napping on the go, or getting your pēp to finally settle in their cot (it’s not a problem, unless it’s a problem!)
Nurturing the bond between you and your baby
Ensuring everything is evidence-based and backed by solid science
Giving you hope that change is coming!
Definitely NOT about:
Giving you false expectations about what is biologically realistic for your baby
Handing you a plan that worked for someone else so should therefore work for you
Making you do things you're not comfortable with, or just don't have the capacity for
Adding more pressure to your already very full life
Understand your pēpi’s sleep better and help send them off gently to the land of nod.
